I'm just tossing a post in here to comment on how THRILLED I am with this guy...

First, he came out with harsh penalties for thuggery and misconduct, which are sorely lacking throughout American sports.

Then he came out with a tougher steroid policy and told the players to shove it when they whined about it.

Today, we have this: http://www.theredzone.org/news/showarticle.asp?ArticleID=5174

It's an article on the new NFL whistleblower program, which creates incentives for players to report when they and other players are being dangerously sent into the game with concussions and other risky injuries. In the NFL, as with most sports, if you are unwilling to play you might be fired for it. This addresses the situations in which players are forced into risky decisions.

I have to hand it to Goodell, so far he gets a solid A+ on my scorecard.

Pete (never thought he'd be so enthusiastic about a sports commissioner)

Goodell rules. He's a solid commish and very fair all around. He knows what's good for his league and his players.

The NFL is the best run sports league in America and he's setting the bar even higher.

he gets an A in my book. he lets it be known that its his league and the best thing he has done is let the players know its not a right to play in the NFL, its a priviledge.

Even better: it's a job.

The best thing the NFL has going for it that the other sports don't is that the contracts aren't guaranteed. Guaranteed money destroys sports.

Pete (can't handle watching NBA players schluff off the first 3 quarters of a game and only exert effort at the end)
